The Open Structures project explores the transformability of 3D printed textiles, and aims to discover if some of the openness that characterizes the CAD-modelled digital form also can be become part of the printed materials qualities. The outcome so far consists of two experimental prototypes that can be altered by physically manipulating the material. The original structures’ properties and expression can e.g. re-designed by changing how the structure is constructed, as well as which raw materials that it consists of. A paper that is based on the project will be presented at the EKSIK Tangible Means conference in Kolding in November 2015, it proposes ways to understand and describe the considerations that are made when designing this type of transformable/open textiles.
