The aim of creating a sound lab at the Swedish School of Textiles is twofold:
a) to be able to do research on how the quality of a sound environment will alter depending on the placement of textile surfaces in the room.
b) to integrate sound as a design tool in the textile design education. Today the students are able to work with the placement of textiles in a virtual environment and the sound lab will be an important complement where the students can get full-scale “live” experiences of how the sound environment can alter depending on where the textile surfaces are placed in the lab.
To bring in sounds from different contexts in the lab there will be advanced technical equipment for recording and playing back sound.
The sound lab will also function as a lab for further experimental work to develop the results from the research project “Textile sound design”, a project where a number of researchers are involved.
